EVEN a pandemic cannot stop Warrington’s own Winachi who have been making it big at the International Singer Songwriter Association (ISSA) Awards.

The electro funk band – formerly Winachi Tribe – won International Band of the Year and International Video of the Year for Funky But Chic.

The ceremony is held annually in Atlanta, Georgia, but took place online this year due to the coronavirus crisis.

Winachi, which formed after frontman Liam Croker met Antony Egerton at the Barley Mow, were due to headline the red carpet event but they will now close the show at the 2021 awards.

Liam said: “It’s a huge honour for Winachi to have won these awards and a massive privilege for us to be headlining the event next year in Atlanta, Georgia.

“It’s more industry recognition and confirmation that Winachi is truly becoming an international band.

“Massive thanks to all the judges at the 2020 ISSA Awards.”

The ISSA was set up to support and promote independent artists in all genres of music worldwide.

Meanwhile, Winachi have also signed a management deal with producer Howie B, who has worked with the likes of U2, Massive Attack and Bjork.

Howie added: “Working with Winachi is an absolute pleasure.
